With nearly 25 years' experience of working on sexual and reproductive health and rights, TARSHI has identified several gaps in the knowledge and information that surround issues of sexuality, health and rights. The IVRS approaches these issues succinctly and from an affirmative and a rights-based perspective. TARSHI's IVRS (Interactive Voice Response System) provides callers with information on a range of topics related to sexual and reproductive health, HIV, contraceptive choices, sexual and gender identities, violence, safety and pleasure in a pre-recorded format.
Our IVRS infoline began in June 2010, initially as an independent service and subsequently as a collaborative project with CREA and Gram Vaani and Gurgaon ki Awaaz, called Kahi Ankahi Baatein. The brief yet accurate and easy to understand information on numerous gender and sexuality related issues, effectively dispels confusion and fear around questions of identity and other connected issues that continue to be treated with silence, anxiety or apprehensions. There are also sub-categories within these broader heads that help address questions around masturbation, violence within intimate relationships, and marital rape among others. The IVRS operated in both English and Hindi to be accessible to a wide range of people, and the Kahi Ankahi Baatein infoline offers only the Hindi version at present.
