Often, we take certain things for granted, forgetting that there are certain privileges and power dynamics which we benefit from even if we don’t realise it. Though, sometimes, there are other benefits that aren’t available to us, social or cultural factors that do hinder us in some ways, we may still have areas in which we’re more advantaged than others – for example, a lot of us who are English-speaking and college-educated but may fall within marginalised gender or sexual identities, fail to recognise that we do have class privilege – and it is important to be aware of it. Robot Hugs’ comic on Privilege helps us do just that, giving us a set of effective tools through which we can acknowledge our privilege and use it do good in the world, and amplify the voices and the causes that require being amplified.
