What makes the perfect “leading lady”? Thin, fair, desirable, “sexy” but “not too sexy”, “pretty” even when she cries. She can’t be too assertive either, of course. She’s always delicate, hyper-feminine, needing a man to often “rescue” her or to “complete” her. We’ve seen these tropes play out on our screens so often, we’ve almost become desensitised to the inherent misogyny associated with them. The short film Leading Lady Parts fleshes this out with brilliant, brutal satire, offering incisive commentary on how femininity and female sexuality are represented in popular culture.
