Al-Anon is an organisation that provides support for families, friends and others affected by alcoholics. The website provides links to Al-Anon International where you can find listings for Al-Anon resources and meeting locations in India. The website provides links to Alateen, a site specifically for young people whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking.

Alcoholics Anonymous

Alcoholics Anonymous is an international fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. AA is nonprofessional – it doesn’t have clinics, doctors, counsellors or psychologists. All members are themselves recovering from alcoholism. The site and the FAQ provides information about alcoholism and alcoholics anonymous meetings in India.

Muskan Foundation works in the field of prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of drug dependents and alcoholics, HIV/AIDS awareness for prevention, caregiving facility for people living with HIV/AIDS, IEC and BCC campaign for drug abuse prevention and VCTC.

Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses (SPYM)

SPYM works to empower the vulnerable and the marginalised population by facilitating the access to services in order to improve their physical, mental, social well-being and holistic development. SPYM operates throughout India and provides residential and outpatient treatment services for youth and adults with substance use disorders, runs programmes aimed at reducing the impact of “HIV/AIDS”, and offers housing and support programmes for the homeless. Society for Transformation, Inclusion and Recognition through Sports (STAIRS)

STAIRS is a not-for-profit organisation working towards sports, education, and health and skill development of children across India. STAIRS uses sports to keep the young away from drugs and help them channel their energies towards personal and economic growth. Society of Service of Narcotics Anonymous India (NA India)

This is a community-based organisation for recovering addicts. The website provides information about NA recovery meetings throughout India. There are links for meeting schedules in Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Darjeeling, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Nangal and more. They also organise online meetings.

The site claims that they are committed to helping one “explore mental health and psychology topics in a way that’s approachable, personal, and stigma-free”. This site has information on substance abuse and addictive behaviour. Check out the sections on specific types of drug abuse and recovery. The website also has articles explaining how one can assess themselves for addiction.
